2019 Canadian Championship — Semifinals, 2nd leg
Toronto FC vs. Ottawa Fury
BMO Field — Toronto
August 14 — 7:30 PM ET
Toronto FC appear poised to reach the Canadian Championship final for a fourth consecutive year, as the three-time defending champions take two away goals back to BMO Field for the second leg of the semifinals Wednesday night.
In the opening leg at TD Place Stadium, Toronto FC cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory last Wednesday. Drew Moor opened the scoring in the 30th minute, lashing home an impressive scissors-kick finish from close range after Ottawa failed to clear a corner kick. Tsubasa Endoh capped the scoring in second-half stoppage time with a deflected strike.
Toronto FC are coming off a 1-1 draw against Orlando City SC Saturday at BMO Field, missing out on a chance to move above the playoff line in the Eastern Conference. Benji Michel broke the scoreless stalemate in the 69th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Patrick Mullins helped TFC stave off complete disaster with a 77th-minute equalizer, his first since being acquired July 11.
The Fury, who sit in eighth place in the USL Championship, 14 points off the pace set by leaders New York Red Bulls II, had a bye this week and will head to Loudoun United Saturday.
